Reflections from Last Sunday

Last Sunday, July 24 was an extremely significant day in my life. The morning begin with services at CrossRoad Church. I led worship for the last time with the A218 Band. Then I gave my last message as a staff member. Even though it was the hardest text I have ever had to preach from, I was excited to bring a message that focused on what Jesus has done for us. As always, my CRC family affirmed my calling and received the word God spoke. It was a special morning for me. I am so thankful for the last 12 years I have been on staff at CRC.

As Sunday marked an ending of a season for me, it was also the beginning of the next. Sunday night, we hosted our first CCW gathering at Sippers Coffeehouse. A packed room of college-aged young adults (as well as a few real adults) gathered for worship and fellowship…celebrating the start of our new campus ministry. It was October 2007 when God first whispered His dream of reaching the thousands of college-aged young adults in Northeast Florida to me. It was humbling to think back at the ways God Himself made that dream a reality over the last 6 or so months. I invited the folks present to carry this dream with me and our small plant team. The sense of expectation and hope for the future was evident…we all believed that God was gonna do something significant through Campus to City. What a way to begin a new season.

Finally, Sunday was the 27th anniversary of my baptism. I can clearly remember that day. It was an outward expression of an inward grace. This realization made the entire day special. It has been said that our baptism is our ordination. I have to say that this has been true on many levels in my life. Ending a season and beginning a new one all because I embraced the God of all seasons so many years ago. I cannot even put into words how grateful I am for Jesus. It all made Sunday a pretty cool day.

I am looking forward to this next season: leading a brand new campus ministry, being a ‘member with a ministry’ at CRC, and hopefully affirming my baptism everyday of my life. The best is yet to come…
